time warp

hold this string

she said

i am making a tapestry

stand where you are

she said

i will run away

like your wild child

and weave and weave

our dreams across the earth

stay there

she said

so i know what home is

and i will come back to you

with a tapestry

From the sad admission of the narrator of Gogi Grant’s “The Wayward Wind” to Billy Joel’s lovely “You’re My Home” to the gentle musings of the greatest poets, this poem captures an amazing truth about love’s stability and center, even in the midst of a (somewhat understandable) wayward wanderer’s heart. Fills me. I have run away. I have stayed. There is deeper love in the latter.
