walked out

i am talking with my mother

through the pounding of my feet

she hears me in the thunder

that ripples on the street

i am singing with my sisters

from the sounding of my soles

they cheer me up with wonder

that echoes out in rolls

i am praying with my father

by the bounding of my steps

he begs my heart not bother

in assurance i won’t be kept

i am volleying with my brother

through the galloping of my gait

he chases me past yonder

and never stops to wait

i’ve been dancing with my destiny

knowing life is fleet

it bears me no more promises

than cracks within concrete
